Never allow the Flag to touch the ground or the floor.
Never fly the Flag in inclement weather unless you're using an all-weather flag.
When other flags are flown on the same staff or halyard, the US Flag should always be at the peak. When another flag is flown on an adjacent staff, it should be placed to the US Flag's left (to the right from the viewer's perspective). No other flag or pennant should be placed above the flag of the United States or to its right.
The US flag should be at the center and at the highest point of a group when a number of flags are grouped and displayed from staffs.
When hanging the Flag vertically, the field of stars should be to the viewer's left.
When flying the flag from a vehicle, attach it to the antenna or clamp the flagstaff to the RIGHT fender or window.
The Flag can be displayed throughout the year, but especially on New Year's Day (January 1); Inauguration Day (January 20); Lincoln's Birthday (February 12); Washington's Birthday (3rd Monday in February); Easter Sunday (variable); Mother's Day (2nd Sunday in May); Armed Forces Day (3rd Saturday in May); Memorial Day - half-staff until noon (last Monday in May); Flag Day (June 14); Independence Day (July 4); Labor Day (1st Monday in September); Constitution Day (September 17); Columbus Day (2nd Monday in October); Navy Day (October 27); Veterans Day (November 11); Thanksgiving Day (4th Thursday in November); Christmas Day (December 25); State birthdays (date of admission); State holidays; and such other days as may be proclaimed by the President of the United States.
Never fly the Flag upside down except as a signal of distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
NEVER throw the Flag in the garbage! When a flag becomes worn and tattered and is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of the USA, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner. Most VFW Chapters and American Legion Posts conduct dignified flag burning ceremonies, often on Flag Day (June 14). Contact your local VFW Chapter or American Legion Hall for information about this service.
